Phuket the Pearl of the Andaman

by Admin

If you harboured a deep desire for an earthy paradise then visiting Phuket would certainly fulfill that aspiration. This mountainous island in the Andaman Sea is popularly known the Pearl of the Andaman and Thailand’s largest island with stunning coastlines including long stretches of fine white sandy beaches highlighted by a backdrop of rising limestone rock formations.

Whilst its’ spectacular scenery and warm climate has hordes of visitors descending on its shores, it is likely that those parts of the island tend to see a hive of activity. Phuket has more than 30 beaches to choose from including Patong Beach, Kata, Karon and Kamala, which are some of the more popular ones. Each beach area in Phuket is unique from the upscale resorts of Surin and Ao Bang Thao, the family-friendly Rawai to the more hedonistic city of Patong. For the more culturally inclined, the east coast capital of Phuket town displays its’ more traditional side attracting those who enjoy delving into its’ culture, norms and customs.

For seekers of adventurous experiences, go north to Khoa Sok National Park where you can join in a full jungle experience, elephant rides coasting along languid rivers, stay in a tree-house lodging or simply spend the day exploring the wildlife sanctuaries itself.

If you love exploring the other islands around Phuket, then hire speed boat to one of many tropical islands including the famous Phi Phi Island where the James Bond movie, ‘Man with the Golden Gun’ was filmed or sail east to explore the mystical Phang Nga Bay and witness the impressive limestone karsts rising out of the water. Head north-east and reach the unspoiled islands of Similan and Surin where divers will have leopard sharks swim by them and observe school of colourful fishes dance in graceful symphony underwater in the day and end the day camping out on the moonlit island.

Phuket never fails to impress and offers a diverse variety of experiences from just soaking up the sun on pristine beaches, culture, natural beauty, diving, fabulous cuisine, holistic spas to vibrant nightlife. Whatever you fancy, this island has it all.
